Election Day
This post has nothing to do with election day except that I am writing it on November 6th, which around here feels like any other day. (The deer and the elk and the magpies don’t care much! See attachment below.) Did pull into school this a.m. and had ten fifth graders in red white and blue Abe Lincoln-style top hats with picket signs reminding “Don’t forget to vote!” Two in the background got a little “O-Ba-Ma” chant going and I swear they got closer than a hundred feet from my car. Call the cops! (Who is the Secretary of State of Idaho anyway??) My intuitive/astrological friend visited this weekend from Wyoming and tells me there shall be no election settled today. Mercury is in retrograde which historically has only happened during one other election: Bush/Gore. Hopefully we’re NOT looking at a month of “hanging chad” analysis. And it’s an anniversary of sorts at our house as I met my husband on election day 20 years ago today at a campaign “victory” party celebrating the 38% of votes we secured for our campaign…
It feels as though we are ending a chapter here as we get ready to leave for the holidays–some trips home and to Florida to see family. And not to mention the weather–again–but it’s goofy. We went into winter and sledding and have reverted back to daily hikes, fishing and 65 degrees. An extreme version of indian summer. Not complaining about more sunny skies, just aging rapidly. Kids are good–mostly great. They managed to find the high concentration neighborhoods in Ketchum and nearby Hailey on Halloween and each came home with full pillowcases of crap. Can’t post pictures as Luke posing in his morph suit “mankini” is not fit for public consumption…That, and the computer’s gone and broke so I can’t download them anyway.
No misgivings, it’s not all easy going all the time. As Whitney said the other day “She learned the hard way what it’s like to be new.” Had to sit solo on the bus ride for their field trip. Breaks a mother’s heart (what have I done? transplanted and scarred her forever?) Chalking the harder “new” experiences up as good learning experiences, and they do provide new perspectives so we are trying to make the most of everything we encounter. Best learning is the hard way… sorry, girlfriend.
That’s all for now–we head out in ten days– Hard to believe we will come back in a few weeks to an opened mountain and winter wonderland, but that’s the hope!
Happy November!

I am intrigued by your intuitive friend from Wyoming… what a strange election night it was indeed. Please blog and tell us your thoughts on the aftermath! 😉
Love the deer sign. How about Moose, Ducks and Golf Carts? Where will x-mas be? Of course
I’m sure your kids have a winter break for a month or more for Florida? Right? Love JuneBug
